Classic Street-Style Beef Tacos

Juicy, seasoned ground beef nestled in warm corn tortillas, topped with fresh onion, cilantro, and a squeeze of lime for an authentic street food experience.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (80/20 blend preferred)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 white onion, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1/3 cup beef broth or water
  • 8-10 small corn tortillas
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
  • Diced white onion (for garnish)
  • Lime wedges
  • Salsa or hot sauce of choice

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the finely diced onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Break it apart with a wooden spoon and cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the tomato paste and beef broth (or water). Reduce heat to low and simmer for 3-5 minutes until the sauce has thickened and coated the meat.
  5. While the beef simmers, warm the corn tortillas in a dry skillet over medium-high heat for about 30 seconds per side until pliable and slightly charred.
  6. Assemble the tacos by spooning the beef mixture onto the warm tortillas.
  7. Top with diced fresh onion, chopped cilantro, and a squeeze of fresh lime juice. Serve immediately with your favorite salsa.
